3M Earplug Lawsuits
3M earplugs are popular and used by people in the military services between 2003 and 2015. Now, the lawsuits against the 3M earplugs are largely related to the fact that they are not effective as they do not fit into the ears properly. Therefore, veterans in the military services are becoming victims of hearing impairment.
At Mountaineer Criminal Law Group, we have been representing many of these military service veterans who suffered from hearing loss due to the manufacturing defect of the earplugs. The defective earplugs are evidently the primary reason why our clients suffered from hearing loss. So, if you have been using the 3M Combat Arms Earplugs Version 2 and facing hearing difficulties, why don’t you contact our West Virginia 3M earplugs lawyer for assistance? File your lawsuit with us to get your issues addressed right away.
What you should know about 3M earplugs lawsuits
The US Department of Justice announced in July 2018 that 3M Corp. has given consent for paying $9.1 related to the whistleblower claim where 3M was accused of marketing and selling earplugs even when they knew that the products were defective. The claim declared that the company went on with marketing the defective earplugs knowing that the cable size was too small for ear insertion.
The earplugs were dual-ended to be used as traditional earplugs or into an open position after flipping to soothe the enormous explosion sounds and also allowed the lighter sounds to pass in. Therefore, when short-sized plugs loosened inside the ears, they could not reduce the noise of big explosions and save the hearing ability of the user.
The US Department of Justice suspected that Aero Technologies, the previous makers of the 3M plugs along with those employees who later joined 3M when they took over Aero were aware of the design problems from when the earplugs were being tested.
One of the most noteworthy facts is that 3M is no longer connected with several reputed companies that supply earplugs similar to Moldex-Metric’s Battle Plugs that the military service purchases right now. The lawsuit has ended favorably for Moldex.
In April 2019, an MDL was set up for 3M Combat Arms Earplugs in the federal court of Florida. We are among the few law firms helping clients across the nation deal with the damage caused by 3M.
Hearing injuries of military
Around 60% of military personnel using defective earplugs suffered hearing loss after retiring from the services. More than 933,000 military veterans received compensation due to hearing loss and about 1.3 million people obtained compensation for tinnitus also known as a ringing sound in the ears.
When a person is exposed to the sound of a loud explosion or long-term exposure to the sound of the engine room or gunfire and the aircraft deck sound, it may result in hearing loss and ringing in the ears.
